There will NO Gathering at Holliday Park on Monday, July 20th

Your CIBA CORE Group sincerely hoped that COVID would have eased by now and we could all feel safe in gathering for fellowship and discussion. - Unfortunately, the consensus of the CORE remains - โ€œIt is not yet time.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ž  -  We wish everyone to remain healthy and safe, ourselves included. โ€”  Please do keep 3rd Mondayโ€™s on your calendar, hopefully by August 17th circumstances will have improved.

Some things to think about:
  • July is Varroa Mites begin to have a significant impact on colonies. - It is IMPORTANT to address this.
  • Major nectar flows are past. Do not expect honey to accumulate as it did in April, May and June. (If your bees continue to fill supers, count yourself fortunate). - Consequences
    • Colonies may need to be fed. - Weak colonies may not have adequate stores. - If you start feedingโ€ฆ Feed inside and feed aggressively.
    • Brood formation is likely to decline dramatically - it may even cease. - Consider feeding.
    • Queenless colony? - If brood laying stops, this is often interpreted as โ€œI need a queen!โ€
  • Other problems that may begin to occur. (All are best defended against by having a Strong Colony)
    • Hive Beetles: Use HB traps; avoid excess volume within hive)
    • Wax Moth: Same as for HB
    • Robbing: Use entrance reducer. Feed inside hive

This is a samplingโ€ฆ.   (Why Beekeeping is so much FUN - Right? ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Above all.  Be safe.. Use common sense in protecting yourself and in protecting othersโ€ฆ.
